About NSS
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various Government led community service activities & programmes. The primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. ‘Education through Service’ is the purpose of the NSS.
NSS was launched in 1969 in 37 Universities involving about 40,000 volunteers which has now spread over 657 Universities and 51 +2 Councils/Directorates, covering 20,669 Colleges/ Technical Institutions and 11,988 Senior Secondary School. Since inception, over 7.4 crore students have benefitted from NSS.

At Sarvajanik University, the National Service Scheme (NSS) plays a pivotal role in shaping socially responsible, empathetic, and active citizens. The NSS unit at the university embodies the spirit of service and community engagement by involving students in meaningful activities that address societal challenges and contribute to nation-building.
Guided by the motto "Not Me, But You," NSS activities aim to instill a sense of selflessness, compassion, and social responsibility among students. Through these initiatives, students actively engage in community outreach, develop leadership skills, and foster a deeper understanding of the social fabric of our nation.
Objectives

- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
- Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
- Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
- Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities

- Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters
- Practise national integration and social harmony
Key Focus Areas:
Community Development
- Rural development projects, cleanliness drives, health awareness campaigns, and support for marginalized communities.
- Collaboration with NGOs and local authorities to improve the living standards of underserved populations.
Environmental Sustainability
- Tree plantation drives, waste management programs, and clean-up campaigns to promote ecological balance.
- Awareness initiatives about climate change, water conservation, and sustainable living.
Health and Well-being
- Organizing blood donation camps, health check-up camps, and mental health awareness sessions.
- Promoting fitness and hygiene among students and communities.
Education and Literacy
- Conducting free education programs, skill development workshops, and mentoring for underprivileged students.
- Initiatives to enhance digital literacy and vocational training in rural areas.
Youth Empowerment
- Leadership development through workshops, seminars, and participation in state and national NSS camps.
- Programs encouraging youth participation in civic engagement, governance, and social causes.
Special Initiatives
- Observing national and international days (like Independence Day, World Environment Day, etc.) to create awareness about their significance.
- Book donation drive.
